Google disrupts customer service industry\r\n\r\nDid Google just disrupt the disruptors?  The\r\n tech giant recently announced that it is \r\noffering the technology for a button that will launch a Google hangout directly from a \r\ncompany website.  \r\n\r\n Hangouts is Google's name for its \r\nvideoconferencing service that allow several \r\npeople to join the same video chat from multiple devices, including smartphones. \r\n\r\n  A related service, Hangouts on Air, allows a video conference to be recorded directly to \r\nYoutube.   Originally a part of its Google+ \r\nsocial network, it has since spun off into a standalone service.  \r\n\r\nThe service was announced on the official \r\nenterprise blog for Google posted by Stephen \r\nCho, Head of Google Apps and Hangouts Technology Partnerships  \"With this new Hangouts \r\nbutton, apps everywhere will let colleagues, \r\npartners, and customers meet face-to-face\r\n anytime, anywhere, and work more effectively together with just one click\" Cho explained, \"A number of our early partners have already \r\nenriched their applications with Hangouts\".   He specifically mentioned several of their \r\npartners in the sales and customer service space, \"Sales reps working in Salesforce.com can automatically kick off a Hangout with their \r\naccount team through Esna; in myERP, a sales \r\nrep can start a video meeting with any \r\ncustomer prospect.    Zendesk helps support\r\n agents start a Hangout to consult with other agents and internal staff, while Freshdesk lets a customer service agent Hangout with a customer to quickly resolve support issues\".\r\n\r\nThe hangout start button can be configured by any moderately skilled developer and let you \r\nspecify if it starts up a text chat, a video \r\ncall, a video conference or a recorded on Hangout on Air.   Since the customer has control\r\n of their own camera settings, this \r\nessentially allows for deployment of an Amazon Mayday- like customer service button on any \r\nwebsite or app allowing customers to see and \r\ncommunicate with the representative, whether they are using their video camera or not.\r\n\r\nIt seems that Google has once again put a \r\ndisruptive game-changer on the market.   \r\nAs described by the CITEworld blog  \r\nhttp:\/\/goo.gl\/KlurVp \"Pretty much everybody \r\nhas access to Google Hangouts, and Google is\r\n letting anybody embed the button. Obviously, you lose some of the really deep functionality for customer service agents to go hands-on \r\nwith customers that Salesforce offers, but \r\nit's definitely more lightweight and almost \r\ncertainly easier to deploy in an application. \r\n\r\n  There's a move towards using collaboration \r\nand chat technology for better customer \r\nservice. It's going to be really interesting \r\nto see if Google Hangouts gets further built\r\n out as an enterprise offering with that kind of service as the focus\".\r\n\r\nWhat will this free application do to the \r\nlarge number of startups and small software \r\ncompanies have developed similar fee-based \r\napplications?   No one really knows, but the \r\nnews can't be good.   They will likely either have to either adjust and offer more value\r\n added services, or incorporate the technology into their own offering.   Clearly this is a development in the customer service technology industry that cannot be ignored.\r\n\r\nCompanies like www.teledini.com, a client of \r\nours seem to like the news.
